Experiment and explore your creative side. If you’ve never painted before, or it’s been a long time since you last put paint to canvas, this class is for you. Discover or rediscover how to create your own abstract works of art using acrylics and mixed media. Enrich and enjoy your life with 3 hours of free expression! No artists oil colours please. Class runs for 8 weeks.

*This new morning class is designed and geared towards beginners so why not start the class at the beginning and be part of a group.

 DRAWING & PAINTING WITH JAMES LAWRENCE

Tutor: James Lawrence (BA, BFA, MFA)

Enjoy a fun, free form, fast paced class, full of ideas and techniques for drawing and acrylic painting. Start with drawing then move on to build texture and explore different painting application techniques. Learn to use non conventional materials, such as ‘No More Nails’ and flea combs, as well as more conventional materials to construct that ‘masterpiece’! Class runs for 8 weeks.

THE JOY OF PAINTING

Tutor: James Lawrence (BA, BFA, MFA)

This mixed media class includes tuition in acrylics and watercolours. Various techniques are covered, along with basic composition and colour use. The class includes demonstrations in all media and is suitable for students of all abilities. Class runs for 8 weeks.

ART TO START WITH

Tutor: Ken Tanner

The class is designed for beginners and relatively inexperienced painters who have an interest in realistic art. The aim is to provide students with a technique which uses the medium of acrylic paint to prepare realistic paintings. The course will cover many of the principles relating to art which will apply to any style of painting. Class runs for 8 weeks.

 LIGHT, LIFE AND ENERGY

Tutor: Ria Van Rooyen

 Ria Van Rooyen art tutor for five years on South Island CTV encouraged many artists to paint and have fun while they learn. She teaches in all mediums and loves abstract and realism equally. Beginners welcome and for the more advanced if you feel like it’s time to loosen up, then this course is for you. Class runs for 8 weeks.

PLUNGE INTO COLOUR

Tutor: Ria Van Rooyen

Advanced artist: if you want to get out of a rut and need change then this class is for you, and for beginners who always wanted to paint but you don't know how to, then all you need is to want to. Ria has been teaching workshops for 25 years in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Make sure you don't miss out, your life will never be the same! Class runs for 7 weeks.

PASTEL

Tutor: Marie Sanders  

This class is for students who have had some experience with the pastel medium or are complete beginners and want to give it a go. Over the term students will work to produce a finished still life, portrait and landscape pastel drawings and in the process develop their own skills and confidence. Class runs for 8 weeks.

SPLASH OF COLOUR - Watercolour & Drawing

Tutor: Penny Lin 

This watercolour class will include contemporary drawing and watercolour techniques.  Students will start with drawings by using a variety of materials and techniques and move on to watercolour.  We will explore a range of visual communication strategies to convey our idea.  Bring along the flowers from your garden, images that you like or just turn up and enjoy the experiences of painting with watercolour.  Class runs for 8 weeks.

NEW CLASS - MEDIA MIX

 Tutor: Claudia Gadotti

An inspiring new tutor who will place emphasis on developing student’s personal style, technique and medium.  Mixed media painting technique of gesso, modelling paste, acrylic and Carand’ache will be taught, but students are free to use any medium they are comfortable with.  Come join this new and exciting class!  Class runs for 8 weeks.
