Uxbridge, Howick's Creative Centre, is governed by an incorporated society called the Uxbridge Community Projects. It was formally established in 1981 with much input from the local community, and has gradually evolved into a professionally run arts centre. Uxbridge receives financial support from Council through an annual performance-based contract, under which Uxbridge provides arts and cultural services to the community. The buildings are owned and maintained by the Manukau City Council. The Board has a governance function on behalf of the Incorporated Society, that is, it looks after the ‘big picture’ and overall direction of the organisation. It is responsible for:
